Welcome to Davidson's Mains Primary School

Comenius

Comenius is a British Council programme named after Joan Amos Comenius who worked for peace and unity between nations.  This Lifelong Learning Programme targets schools and further education establishments and is made up of three broad types of activity, all of which provide opportunities for schools and colleges to introduce or strengthen the European dimension in their curriculum.

Project Aims

The main aims of our project are:

To develop the European dimension within each partner school and to generate enthusiasm about being part of the European community. The pupils and wider school community will have a better understanding of where we are placed in Europe and what it means to be European.

To gain the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary at all levels of the school community to become informed, active and responsible European citizens. The project will help to break down misconceptions and intolerance’s of people from other countries and cultures across the entire school community.

To establish a common international project in each partner school. To help carry out the aims of each school and of the national priorities in each participating country.

To develop enthusiasm across the school community for the learning of European languages.

Comenius School Partnerships enable pupils, students and staff from across Europe to work together on joint projects.
Through Comenius our school has links with 4 other European schools: Drosia KB Elementary School, Larnaca; St Saviours Church of England Junior School, Bath; Ecole Elementaire Buffon, Champigneulles; Szkola Podstawowa im. Jana Brzechwy.

We have worked with these schools on health promoting projects for the last two years and will continue to do so until 2008.

Through these projects we aim to:

•    Understand more fully what it means to be part of Europe.
•    Become informed, active and responsible European citizens.
•    Understand more about different countries and their cultures.
